THE TIPTONS are an internationally renowned saxophone quartet with drums based in New York and Seattle. Their ‘world soul’ genre-busting sound ranges from micro-Big Band to Gospel, Bluegrass to Balkan, whimsical Jazz to Nocturnal Funk to Free. The Tiptons’ solid instrumental and vocal talent is forged from 20 years of collaboration, creating some of the freshest sounds on the jazz/world/pop music scene today. Their dynamic, playful performances feature high-energy interaction between members and with the public.

Their 11th CD 'tiny lower case' is available on Sowiesound Records (Austria) and their own label Zipa! / Spoot Music. Presenting eleven previously unrecorded tracks, it was recorded in Mantova Italy during their Spring 2013 European tour, and includes the exceptional participation of Italian singer Peppe Voltarelli. This CD features original compositions by all of the band members sprung from a wealth of inspirations including: stories of personal myths and survival, universal superstitions, a prayer for cancer victims, the science of the earth's seasonal rotations, Conlon Nancarrow "funk-a-fied", punk waltzes, confronting discrimination and what "home" sounds like.

The arc of the CD is one of joy and discovery. All eleven tracks feature a repertoire that covers musical territory from New Orleans “second - line” to jazz, Afro-Cuban to Balkan, Klezmer and beyond, their dynamic, playful concerts feature high-energy interaction between members, and a repertoire that touches on soulful music from around the world.
