Inspired by the 1970s Ethiopian Jazz legends Mulatu Astatke, Getatchew Mekuria (the King of Ethiopian Saxophone), and visionary saxophonist and improvisor Ornate Coleman, Freethiopiques digs into exciting, expansive and compelling melodic groove, funk, and experimental jazz and blues. Freethiopiques combines the talents of a fiery horn section of Jessica Lurie (sax/flute, Tiptons Sax Quartet, Living Daylights) and Greg Glassman (trumpet, Taylor Mac), with a solid rhythm section of Brian Marsella (piano & organ, John Zorn), Jon Madof (guitar, Zion80), Yoshie Fruchter (bass, Sandcatchers, Zion80) and Chris Stromquist (drums, Slavic Soul Party, Kultur Shock).
This recording features 6 tracks from our debut concert that blew the roof off Erv's in chilly mid-January, 2019!!

I hope there will be further releases in due course . I have now become addicted ( in a good way ) to the music this band provides. Each set is unique. Will there be personnel changes in the future if some members needed to leave for any reason? Hopefully this will not occur . Nick Bradey
