about

"If the genius of jazz musicians is judged by how they make the complexity of their music accessible to an audience, then the members of the jazz/rock/funk trio the Living Daylights could be considered geniuses." - DK, Willamette Week (Portland, OR)

Seattle’s LIVING DAYLIGHTS features Jessica Lurie (alto/tenor saxophone), Arne Livingston (electric bass) and Dale Fanning (drums). This explosive jazz trio is one of the most exciting new touring jazz groups in the country today, mixing the fun of funk and soul-jazz grooves with the edgy punch and teeth of the avant-garde. They tour nationally and internationally, in festival and clubs, opening for and playing with the likes of Groove Collective, Wayne Shorter, Maceo Parker, Soul Live, Deep Banana Blackout, and many others in the jazz/jam band community. The combination of saxophone, bass and drums presents the audience with a live experience like few others - one moment relaxed and grooving, one moment with a sax attack that will knock you backwards.

Press response to LIVING DAYLIGHTS has been overwhelmingly positive since the release of their first CD, Falling Down Laughing (produced by Wayne Horvitz) in 1995:
"Hard-driving, steamy and funky jazz is what Seattle's latest power trio, Living Daylights, is all about... [their] energy level falls somewhere between Nirvana and the Charlie Hunter Quartet." - Larry Kelp, San Francisco Chronicle & Examiner
"For several years they have wooed audiences on the West Coast with their virtuosity and intricate compositions, and without alienating the listeners with 20-minute solos or a barrage of pointless experimentation. Instead, they prefer to play progressive jazz with a definite pop flavor. Each musician shines individually, but when they play in unison their talents are blinding."
- DK, Willamette Week
"The freshest, most original, and most accomplished jazz group playing music today."
- Mike Nichols, AS Review (Bellingham, WA)
"Whether hypnotic ('Spaghetti Western') or frenetic ('Falling Down Laughing'), '500 Pound Cat' will knock your ass down the stairs with an assurance of brain and brawn."
- David Bratton, Resonance Magazine
"Passionate, exploratory sax, teeming drums, and bass that out-guitars most guitarists. Living Daylights is a perfect example of how the whole exceeds the sum of its parts."
- Peter Monaghan, Earshot Jazz.
