MEGAPHONE HEART can i write you a letter ? blast it out from a meg-a-phone heart all my thought are much clearer when i let the words fall a part i thought you were forever like the lights on the prairie at night just a light house of color burning fast and always so bright when you lift up your arms and let it go does the soul fly or get caught in the under tow? send a post card just to let us know you can hear us clear sometimes when we call on the old megaphone all the weight that you carry just a measure of how fast we fall al-ways fall ing and fly ing till we don't feel the weight at all till we don't feel the weight at all should you rage or go gentle you just laugh when you take up the fight in your bed by the win-dow see the stars in the desert night when you lift up your arms and let it go throw my head back just to watch you from below do your wings hurt how is the landing gear is that you on a megaphone play it loud so that i can hear when you lift up your arms and let it go does the soul fly or get caught in the under tow? send a post card just to let us know you can hear us clearly sometimes when we call on the old megaphone

Maps 06:59
MAPS For the long traveler i beg you to be wary of distractions and a lack of road signs if the radio plays static and your throat is too dry perhaps you'll consider pulling over this time when i see open road i just don't believe it sometimes I'm blind to the cracks in the ground & when i can't seem to hear for all the buzzing in my ears i just try to keep all windows down One Two Three You know what it means to me Now that we’ve started up again I can’t stop this pulling on e me endlessly Just like the ocean, you pull me in Just like the ocean, we come back again re-mem-ber when we got lost in the city we had more maps than our arms could hold but i could see no direction worth going to I could not find you as our hearts had grown cold i follow the compass that is tattooed on my chest spin me in 3 circles and we just might be heading north the furrow on your brow seems softer somehow & it is easier to chart a new course One Two Three You know what it means to me Now that we’ve started up again I can’t stop this pulling on e me endlessly Just like the ocean, you pull me in Just like the ocean, we come back again I think that I see you so much better in the dark Our hands our eyes our breath a southern wind Follow that notion for to jump in the ocean And like the ocean your heartbeat pulls me in Just like the ocean, you pull me in Just like the ocean, we come back again

Once 04:55
ONCE when i was young the corn it ran high it reached to the sun and it kissed to the sky But all that's long gone it's been taken away to make room for a strip mall and packaged up dreams I dreamed that the green was the bottom of the sea and the blue sky the ocean covering over me I screamed out your name and the river ran high all the flowers are blooming with a whale swimming by Dreaming dawning careless yawning i held you before the morning light broke down before I broke down The river runs deep and the river runs wild she took out the town & left the corn beside & If its true what they say that you’ll reap what you sow I will plant us some flowers before we must go When i was young the corn it ran high it reached to the sun and it kissed to the sky & its true what they say that you reap what you sow So I will plant us some flowers before we must go Dreaming dawning careless yawning i held you before the morning light broke down before I broke down

about

With MEGAPHONE HEART, her newest recording, composer and multi-instrumentalist JESSICA LURIE and her Ensemble are poised between creative jazz, rock, folk and avant-garde music, generating a luscious and compelling sea of sound. An adventurous musical spirit shines through ten original compositions, with Lurie’s unmistakable big sound on tenor and alto saxes, flute, and her distinctive voice. Inspired by life in Brooklyn, traveling the world, and her love of American and international melodies and rhythms, this is her strongest collection of songs yet.
With skill and discipline borne from her-life long dedication to music composition and improvisation, Lurie creates a pulsing, brimming, expansive sound. Joined by an ensemble of stellar musicians, she barrels across uncharted territories where jazz, folk, chaos and beauty all come out to play.
